So here is my first attempt at some sort of restaurant review. Hopefully it's the start of something different to my blog.
Last Monday, it was a surprisingly gorgeous day out and my friends Tasha (who's blog you can check out: here) and Krystal invited me to go for a bike ride around the sea wall and head over to Granville Island for brunch. Even though it was a lot colder than I thought it would be, it worked up quite an appetite in all of us. We had expected to go eat in the public market but was disappointed to find out that in January the Market was closed on Mondays for cleaning. So with a little bit of disappointment we decided to bike our way to Bridges on the pier. I haven't eaten at Bridges in a long time and to be honest I had forgotten what it was like except for the amazing view of false creek you had. When we entered we got sat at the lounge right by the fire place which was perfect for us to warm up. The restaurant itself wasn't to busy (as it was Monday afternoon) but the ambiance was warm and welcoming and really suited what you'd think a restaurant by the water would be, with plenty of natural light coming from open the big windows.
The first thing I noticed on the menu was that their special on Monday was whole lobster for only $25. Normally, I would glance over this and stick to something a little more cheaper on the menu but considering this was a special, I knew in my gut I had to get it. So while Tasha and Krystal decided to share a lobster and fish and chips, I opted for just the lobster and a lavender latte to continue to warm me up.
I've never had a lavender flavoured latte before so I wasn't to sure on what to expect but I did know I enjoyed the scent of lavender and it intrigued me how it would work in a drink. When it arrived nice and hot, it looked like a regular latte to me but once I had my first sip, I could taste the hint of lavender in it that made the drink special. It gave the normally rich latte a light floral hit that was both pleasing to the nose as it was to my taste buds.
Latte cost: $4
After the latte, came the main event; the 1.25lbs fresh Nova Scotia lobster with butter and greens. Now I don't remember the last time I had lobster so I was a little hesitant to attack it. It looked amazing, and the presentation of the different colours on the plate was quite appealing to the eyes. The lobster itself (once I had opened it up) had a really light texture that good lobster was known for. It was simple but something like lobster I think really doesn't need to be complicated. Easy to say I devoured that lobster with little difficulty. I did however forget how messy eating a whole lobster could be- but that was part of the fun of ordering it.
Lobster cost: $25 (Monday special)
According to my friends, the fish and chips were just as delightful and filling as the lobster. By the end of the meal, we were all quite satisfied with the food. The service for a slightly lesser busy time of day was alright but the waitress was wearing some real funky yellow leggings that matched really well her yellow belt and black dress. And she was really fun to talk to as well. Overall a pretty good experience and for the price of the meal; I can't really complain. Would I visit it again? Probably, as long as the sun is shining and have a couple of good friends with me- I don't see why not.
