Candy Cane Hearts?!

Ah, Valentines Day.  One of the most looked forward to holiday for a sugar fiend like me.  Candy, sweets and every form of chocolate imaginable are just at my fingertips!  My favourite part of Valentines day is the day after because of all the on sale chocolate-  I usually try to stock up enough to last me until Halloween; well lets say Easter.

Now, last year I was browsing Pinterest and found this really cool and simple way to use up any leftover candy canes from Christmas (if you had any) and turn them into a sweet Valentines day treat!

If you google Candy Cane Hearts, you'll find so many different versions of this recipe but the core of all the recipes I found remained the same.  Whether you turn them into lollipops or just treats, I different variations to them are endless.

For my version of these candy cane hearts I used:  leftover Candy Canes, White chocolate, Heart sprinkles and Lollipop sticks

1.  You want to heat your oven up and line a cookie sheet with parchment paper.  Then you're going to have to align 2 candy canes into the shape of a heart and place a stick in between them.

2.  Now place the cookie sheet into the oven for about 30 seconds or until the candy canes have melted enough that they melt enough to move around.  Since, my candy canes were curved ever so slightly inwards initially, I had to manually connect them and make them into a heart shape. *Just a note on dealing with slightly melted candy canes; it's extremely hot! be careful and take caution not to burn your fingers

3.  Now that your happy with your heart shape, place the candy canes into the fridge just to let the sugar settle and cool.

4.  Using a double boiler (or microwave)  melt your white chocolate making sure you don't burn them.

5.  Use a spoon to place a dollop of white chocolate into the middle of your candy canes and finish them off by sprinkling some heart shaped sprinkles on top.

6.  Place in fridge to let chocolate settle/cool once more.  And voila!  You have a really simple and cute treat that is sure to satisfy any sweet tooth this Valentines Day.

*7.  If you want you can wrap them up and give them out to all your friends too!

I hope you all have a very sweet Valentines this year (I'll be working) and make sure to have lots of chocolate for me :)
