Stanley Park photo shoot!

Hey everyone! So for today's post I thought I'd post up some of the shots I took for a fun photo shoot I did with my friend Susan!  We headed off to Stanley Park in Vancouver because A, it has beautiful surroundings and natural backdrops and B, it wasn't so public haha.

I managed to take a lot of amazing shots with my camera (considering I don't really know how to use it to its full potential- I somehow managed to make it work!). I shoot with a Nikon d5000 with your basic kit lens and a fix focused lens as we'll- maybe someday I'll get a better lens but for now it does it's job.
Plus with finally purchasing an IPad I put it to good use and edited all my photos (well the ones I like) on it.  I took close to about 250 shots and here are the top 30ish? (In my opinion) with a little help of iPhoto, so enjoy!

We didn't really know where to begin looking for an ideal place to shoot so we just decided to park near prospect point and find a trail and begin hiking it.  Not long after our stroll we found this gorgeous tree to set up our stuff and it was an excellent backdrop for our first couple of shots.  Needless to say, I'm sure it takes quite some talent to walk on trails in heels!

Her first outfit of choice is a light blouse matched well with grey shorts and knee high socks.  Her real urban outfit contrasted well with the natural environment allowing her clothes to shine against all the greenery.

Just around our magnificent tree, there were logs laying around and I thought it would give me a really different perspective if we played around with different levels and props.  Susan was a great sport and really took the vague direction I gave her well, and incorporated it in some great shots!

We did a bunch of straight on shots, almost similar to headshot in terms of framing and composition but I didn't want this to turn into a headshot shoot so we played around with lots of different emotions and made silly faces and had fun.

Since I knew Susan danced, I really wanted to incorporate some of that grace that I had hoped she had naturally in her into some of her shots, so I just got her to start some basic lines up and down the trail while shooting her, knowing all to well that one of those shots would be magic.

After a bunch of shots taken in the outfit above; it was time to switch to outfit number 2! Which was a beautiful blue dress that flowed and worked really well against the lush green forest behind her.

Finally, it's my turn to get some shots in.  Now unlike my lovely friend Susan, I had more commercial, silly poses that made us both laugh quite a bit.

The shots above we're so hard to hold (having absolutely no upper body strength) but luckily Susan managed to capture them in time and they turned out great!

My last shots were takend after I had climbed up a tree (which took some time). But the real fun was trying to get down as it was much more difficult to do.

Overall, I had my doubts about this shoot in beginning (because of my lack of experience as a photographer?) but it turned out to be so much fun resulting in some amazing shots.  And even if they aren't the greatest of pictures I still had a blast attempting to editing and shoot them.  Susan was so much fun to work with and a lot of help too.

Hope you enjoyed these and make sure to follow me on twitter and Instagram!

Cheers and good bye,

Miguel
